“We have been trying to build our family for two years, and quite frankly, we entered this process not fully understanding what it would entail. Growing up, the messaging around pregnancy made it seem like something that happens easily, but as a same-sex couple, we knew our path would be different and much more clinical. Nothing could have prepared us for the challenges we’ve faced along the way.
To date, we have gone through six unsuccessful IUI cycles and one unsuccessful IVF cycle, and we have now exhausted our lifetime maximum for medication coverage. It has been an emotionally and financially overwhelming journey, but our determination to grow our family has never wavered.
Fertility Friends Foundation has truly been a beacon of hope for us. Being selected as the recipients of the Fall 2025 Dr. Shannon Corbett 2SLGBTQ+ Fertility Fund grant is an honour we are deeply grateful for. Fertility treatment is undeniably expensive, and the financial strain adds to an already challenging experience. This grant will significantly ease some of that burden while also reminding us that we are supported, seen, and not alone in this journey.
