Hi, we are Tom and Timea!
We met in 2019; I was a supply teacher at the high school Tom worked at, filling in for absent teachers all throughout the building, while he worked in the Special Education Department with children with disabilities.
The next year, serendipitously, I got a full teaching contract at the same school as Tom, and in the same department as him, teaching children with autism. It was the year of Covid, and we were part of only a small group of teachers allowed in the building.
Tom and I bonded over our mutual admiration for podcasts, puzzles, nature, and late-night drives to find the best cheeseburgers in Mississauga.
We would spend our weekends together hiking and walking my dog, a rambunctious 4-year-old cockapoo named Arthur. Our friendship grew into a deep caring for each other.
Painfully, our excitement was interrupted months later the following year by an unexpected and traumatic medical emergency that required me to undergo an emergency hysterectomy.
That put us on this journey of fertility and surrogacy.
Yet, it was in those darkest moments, while in the hospital and filled with uncertainty, that we determined we would get through it together no matter what.
Six months later, after I was medically cleared, we got married and had our honeymoon. To this day we live our lives with gratitude.
We are thankful for the health we have, for our families and friends who supported us in our darkest moments and who celebrated with us in the happiest of times.
We have plans to continue traveling together, as we did recently a year after my medical emergency, reminding ourselves that we got through it together and that we want to look forward to the things we can accomplish, and this includes starting a family.
Tom and I would love nothing more than to be parents and to have a child of our own.
We are thankful for the support available to us and continue to seek all opportunities that will help us achieve our dream. We both sincerely are grateful FFF can help us in this journey.
