Krista & Sue are recipients of Fertility Friends Foundation’s Dr. Shannon Corbett 2SLGBTQ+ Fertility Fund. This fund was created in memory of Dr. Shannon Corbett who was an unwavering beacon of hope, expertise, and support through every patient’s care. Her life’s mission as a physician was to support individuals from the 2SLGBTQ+ community in realizing their aspirations of forming their own families. The establishment of this fund is meant to ensure that Dr. Corbett’s life mission continues on for many years to come.
Krista & Sue Testimonial:
Krista started her fertility journey in the spring of 2019, choosing to face this journey alone. A sperm donor was selected, testing was completed and 2 failed IUI cycles were completed before meeting Sue.
When Krista and Sue met, they both did everything in their power to scare the other person off, including Krista sharing her desire to create a family.
Fast forward almost 5 years: a new house, a marriage and a handful of pets, and together they’ve struggled through selecting 3 different donors, 6 unsuccessful IUIs, 2 rounds of IVF, 3 chemical pregnancies and 2 miscarriages.
We knew that our fertility journey wasn’t done, but it was going to take a miracle for us to try again – mortgage payments, bills – they all add up.
And life.
Life gets put on hold while going through fertility treatments; not buying the baseball tickets because it might be transfer day or choosing to skip a future event because ‘maybe this transfer will work and I’ll be xx months pregnant.’
We had seen the FFF grant application before but had either missed the deadline or we were already past the IVF retrieval stage. This year, it seemed like the stars aligned.
We had decided to move forward with our third round of IVF with a new doctor at a new clinic. Our new clinic provided us with a renewed hope to try again. We were then surprised to see our new clinic listed as a partner clinic with the FFF grant application and decided that this was our year to apply.
Receiving the Dr. Shannon Corbett 2SLGBTQ+ Fertility Fund has completely shifted our outlook this cycle.
Not only have we been granted the gift of funds to be used for our retrieval (through the grant and our amazing partner clinic, MFC) but we have also been gifted the invaluable resources of the FFF Support Program which is helping us to take a more holistic approach this cycle.
Our approach this time around is completely different.
Thank you to the Fertility Friends Foundation, our new clinic, MFC, and a very special thank you to Dr. Corbett and her family for the chance to make our dreams come true.
