We met about 5 years ago. We quickly knew that we had finally found the right person to start our family with.
My doctor recommended I undergo fertility testing since I’m in my forties. It was very difficult for me to receive a diagnosis of age-related infertility. Since then, we’ve been on a real uphill battle. The desire to have our child has transformed over the past three years into a journey filled with intense emotions (hope followed by disappointment, sadness, guilt, anxiety, grief) and financial worries. We’ve experienced two failed IUIs, three failed IVFs, and one miscarriage (a natural pregnancy). Following the third failed IVF, the doctor recommended egg donation for a better chance of success. Egg donation is very expensive, and these costs are in addition to those of previous treatments (a little over $30,000). I’m no longer eligible for any provincial health insurance coverage.
When we learned we were recipients of the $5,000 grant, we were relieved of an immense financial and emotional burden. It was a soothing balm for the many sorrows we had experienced in recent years. We received human support and felt a sense of solidarity with other couples going through the same difficulties.
We are extremely grateful to the foundation for their contribution and their humanistic support of our project.
